PLAY--SCORING—APPROACH—TIMING Hitting
is not about pounding ---it is about scoring !
Do what it
takes to score To start: After learning three-step approach, get used to jumping and catching the ball at its highest point out in front of your body. Have someone toss the ball to you and practice jumping as high as you can to catch the ball out front of your body as you are moving toward the net, Not at the highest Point. APPROACH 1.
For right handed hitters when approaching net for spike. a)
Anticipate
speed, distance and position of ball in b)
Approach
with last 3 steps being: Left. – Right. -- Left. 1)
For
timing purposes the steps might be:
A)
Slide
Approach :Left - Right -Left jumping off left foot only. d) Go up with both hands --leave non- hitting hand up for tools and quick sets outside antennae--bend hitting elbow back and keep elbow above 90 degrees to the floor. While going up--turn hitting hand toward side then have hitting elbow lead the arm's forward movement through the hitting zone in whip motion ending with the hand contacting the ball slightly in front of body at 95 percent reach of hitting arm.
e) While swinging forward with hitting arm, bring non- hitting elbow down and back to quickly turn torso bringing non- hitting hand near chest. As if left arm was in a sling. Gives extra power. 2. Outside Hitters: Down the line—Keep chest toward center of
Cross Court --- Keep chest toward center of
opponent court.
Cut Shot – Turn palm out toward right side of court and thumb down as hand comes across ball. 3. Middle : Be
in the air at the net as ball leaves setters hands. Let setter put the ball
on your hand as you are swinging. Establish the middle. Advanced Outside: Contort body in such a
way to hit ball off
If close to the net(tight set), reach for ball with fingertips
*** Use ROUNDHOUSE to hit back left if double blocked ***
Roundhouse---Keep elbow straight-cup wrist—swing back over head.
Middle
- If miss ball with right
hand be ready with left. Transitioning off the net. More to come. |
